Hi. I have a C250TD 1999 (S reg), 44000 miles.

When I accelerate hard, there is a REALLY loud vibrating noise, which appears to come from inside the dashboard. It has been into a local dealer, who has checked it, and can find nothing in the engine bay, or underneath the car, which might cause this, so it looks like something is loose inside the dash.

MB are quoting £loads to take the dash off and have a look, which is a joke.

Has anyone else had this, and if so how did you fix it?

Cheers
Chris.

Interesting Rattle / vibration

Hi Chris,
           I have an older version of your model but it has not occurred..yet.
I assume you get it in full kickdown & it lasts till you come off the throttle? Which side of the dash..left, centre or right? Is it a deep resonance or a tinny one?
This might help to pinpoint the culprit.
regards
Ernest

Interesting Rattle / vibration

noise comes from the centre of the dash, and it sounds like something metal is hitting something else (not metal) at high speed. Its not noticeable when just cruising along.

You can also hear some vibrating / rattling, when doing highish speeds on the motorways (i.e. around 90 or so)

cheers.
Chris

Hi Chris,

If the dealer says its behind the dash. There is very little that can be done till the dash is removed to identify whats come loose. Or live with it. With noises its very hard to say what it could or couldn't be especially something out of the ordinary like yours.

I've been thinking about it. With the dash removed, the vehicle should still be able to put into a drivable position to be able to locate the noise. It seems you might have to bite the bullet. Or live with it. Or contact us. On the url below. There may be way we can help you.

Regards.

Hi,

you might want to check:
* engine mounts,
* tranny mount
* any clearance problem /loose heat shields etc

Cheers, Wolfram
