Hi all.

Haven't posted for a while which is a good thing cos the cars been going aok. New niggle...

Car is a 2001 T210 320cdi. Ventilation is the two wheel jobby, i.e. not digital climatic. When the fan is on, after about 1/2 minutes there is a noise which is very faint which sometimes follows engine revs, but often still there on tickover. Fan works perfectly but the humming is annoying !!.

Any ideas what it can be, is the motor on its way out :-(

All and any thouoghts always appreciated

Hello,
Does it make a differnce with the a/c on or off. could be the compressor making a noise coming back through the car.

Be aware that the regulator can make exactly the same noises as the fan. Mine squealed exactly like a dry fan bearing. The indie suggested it would probably be the regulator and eventually (4 months later) it started varying the fan speed erraticaly (switch on 1 - speed up to full and back down again as you drive along) which fortunatley gave the game away. Popped a new one on and it was all quiet again.

Regulators are more common failures than the motors but to be fair it could be either.

My car had what I thought was a noisy compressor. When I turned on the aircon a humming noise could be heard. I was going to get the system investigated but in the meantime had the aircon re-gassed and the noise went away.

It has been fine now for months.

From memory the part was £125 from MB. Couldn't find it elsewhere. And yes it's easy - it took me 20 mins to swap them over.
The switch puts out a small current of between (roughly) 0 and 7v. The regulator then translates that into enough current to run the fan at the appropriate speed.
