problem with starting my 1996 250d elegance, car kept shutting down when warm, leave it for a few mins and would start ok, the other ay it stopped and refused to start, was told it would be crank sensor, on tying to start it, I noticed that as I am cranking it over the red and green lights on the interior mirror flash alternatly, I put new batterys in the key, but the lights are still flashing, could there be a fault on the immobiliser, the button on the key still unlocks/locks the central locking and turns the alarm on and off and give me the green light on the door handle and mirror when entering and the red light etc on locking i saw a few routines for re programing a key but none seem to make sense, plus none seem to be for my exact model of car, could anyone give me advice on correct way to re program the key (if it needs doing) and if the red and green lights should flash when cranking the engine, (they do not flash when the ignition is turned on only when cranking) there is no pick up sensor in the door handle or on boot/trunk thanxs in advance really need to get my car moing again

Hi,
With the diesel I believe the immobiliser operates differently to a petrol via a coded fuel valve.

I'm not sure what you mean, Is it just a case of puttng an independant feed (live) to the fuel valve ?????????

I really don,t know, as i have only experienced petrol models and can only quote from memory. I don,t think it is just a case of the live feed as the unit must be coded, you could ask your local MB dealer for a price on the coded fuel valve, if it has to be programmed by the main dealer then you,ll know you won,t be able to bypass it.
