Hi all,
I've got a C220 CDI auto W202 YR 2000 and occasionally when pulling off from a junction the gearbox stays in 1st gear and the tiptonic gearchange doesn't do anything. I have to stop and turn off ignition then move it through the gears and it goes OK. Its only happened 3 or 4 times as yet but I like to track it down before it becomes a real problem or sticks altogether,
Also can anyone tell me if there is an onboard diagnostic socket besides the 32 pin under the bonnet, I have been led to believe there was one under the dash but I can't find it.

Thanks Guys.

Your diagnostic socket is under the dash to the right of the steering wheel and normally has a small oblong cover over it.

Your fault also sounds like the connectors to the gearbox ECU are poor, this was a common fault on many models around that year, I believe the ECU is in front of the gear shift in the car.

If you let me have the first 6 VIN numbers I can check

Thanks Television,
The first 6 digits of the vin are: WDB202. I don't suppose you know of a company that sells genuine Mercedes second hand parts at decent prices do you as some nice person has run into my O/S front inner and outer wing and headlight. The Insurance preffered repairer put an estimate of £7,400 for the repair (THEY MUST BE HAVING A LAUGH) and the Insurance assessor has said it uneconomic to repair , so I'm getting it back and getting 2 other estimates or failing that I'll sort it out myself as I've only had it 2 months.

For a 2000 model, i find it strange that the insurance company said its an uneconomic repair? Fight them on this and, yes, get a couple more quotes.

You cant fight them, its the wort thing that you can do.

In this day and age if the repair cost are 50% of the value then they will write it off.. Yes one can ask to keep the car, and yes one can ask for a little more on the pay out.

But fight them = never

Thanks Guys
I'm getting them to get me the car back and getting 2 more estimates. It seems that insurance companies forget who pays the insurance and who has the V5 ie WHO OWNS THE CAR.
As far as fighting them, I've never given anything up without a fight (that's how I got custody of my children after I was warned that the wife nearly always gets custody).
And television I'll check out the diagnostic socket out and the ecu a
when I get it back as it looks like I'm going to be spending quite a lot of time either under, over, in it and out of it in the near future.

That estimate sounds like they don't want the job.

I'd shop around and get some realistic estimates, you can have it repaired wherever you like. Personally I'd head over to your nearest dealer and speak to them, they'll recommend a body shop they have regular dealings with.
