CLK 320 CAB Elegance C208
Hi there. I have had my CLK 320 Auto CAB Elegance (W208) for 6 months and have had a strange problem appear for the third time now.

first two times I was at lights and when I went to pull away it was as though I was in neutral, after a few seconds it went into gear and all was well.

Last night I was doing around 35 / 40, went to speed up and thought better of it (tomtom shouted about a speed cam lol) and the car just seemed to have dropped to neutral again, revved up just fine but nothing running through to the wheels, I coasted to the layby, stopped, then it was back to normal, and still runs just fine. It will hold 90mph at 3,000 rpm all day with no problems and get an average of 28 / 31mpg so it seems to be running fine. As I say, its happened just three times but I am now concerened that I will end up with no drive at all if I dont get it sorted.

At the time of the error, there are no warnings, the dash still indicates that I am in D(rive) no malfunctions pop up. Any ideas what this could be?

First thing to do is check the gearbox fluid level.

Or make one from curtain wire as in the DIY section

The curtain wire seems a do-able thing, and by the looks of the locking cap, my recent service didnt include this auto fluid.

Would mine be the 722.6 model also, what are the measurments for mine, I cant seem to find the correct depth settings

MB repeatedly ignore gearbox and differential fluid level checks, something that you'd expect as a basic part of a service.

"You don't need to check it unless there's a problem" seems to be the most common reply.

after digging around I found the info, temps at 80c, levels between 5.3cm and 6.4cm. guess who will not have any curtains up tomorrow lol

well after nearly 2 litres of the old red juice, the box seems to be better than it ever was, seems to engage at low revs with a bit more torque than i recall.
