intermittent fault when starting

hi can anyone shed any light on my starting problem. on my ML270 2000
sometimes when trying to start my car the engine turns over but it wont start when you turn the ignition on you normally here a noise ( fuel pump i think ) when it wont start if you leave it for say 10min it starts again.
any advice would be appreciated and thanks in advance

Possibly a crank shaft position sensor or camshaft sensor fault. Does this happen from hot starting?
