***REPEAT POSTING IN ELECTRICAL FORUM***

I have a 1994 SL500 (not sure if thats a W129 or R129) and I am experiencing a strange problem where the vehicle simply dies after about an hour into a journey. Once left for a couple of minutes, it will usually fire up again and behave fine for another couple of miles before repeating the act!

It has got brand new bosch distributor caps and rotor arms so I can rule those out of the equation!

I've had it into a specialist and they say that the diagnostic equipment is saying nothing. Am I likely to find out more by taking it to a main dealer? Any ideas on the likely cause would be really helpful.

Thanks,

When you say dies, does it cut instantly or does it splutter and die

There is no splutter, it just suddenly dies without any noises - revs drop to zero and the power steering then fails as if there are no electrics!

I had a Chrysler in the 70's that did the same thing. It was the computer. Back then the computers only performed ignition system functions. They called them lean burns.

Any ways when it dies pull a plug wire and though an old plug on the wire and check for spark. No spark I would say it's the EZL that is more than likely you problem.

There was a couple of faults which caused this. I will try to find out more info but I won't have access to what I need until Thurs 12th. There was something about the torque converter lock-up clutch & something about the charcoal filter - possibly blocking the MOT/purge valve. These might have been for a later 129 though.

Ring any bells anyone??
