C220 starting 1st time only sometimes, when key is put into ignition very dim clicking noise not the usual loud click to turn on, after attempting to continue to start it seems to start whenever steering lock is released, is this key problem, ignition problem or something else?

Hi Sam

Most likely your steering lock motor is failing. Quite common.

Are you leaving it with steering lock loaded under pressure (as in the wheel is being pulled hard against the lock)?

No not leaving it under pressure in fact I'm making sure that the steering wheel is turned to the starting position and moves freely before I turn off

Hi Sam

Most likely your steering lock motor is failing. Quite common.

Is it expensive to repair, some people had said my key needs reprogrammed or new ignition barrel, are those also plausible reasons?

As AMF above it is a known problem and better to get it sorted before the steering lock fails
