Hi there. I have a C-class Coupe C220 CDI with 90,000 on the clock.:(:( When I turn the ignition key to start up the car it sometimes turns but nothing happens other than a click. All electrics work fine. Took the car to a dealer who checked it over with the computer diagnostics. No problem was found! It is an intermittent fault. Sometimes I turn the key and the engine fires up instantly. Have been quoted between £500 and £700 to repair the ignition switch!!! Anyone out there had similar difficulties. I would greatly appreciate any advice.:(

That sounds like the beginings of an ignition switch problem.

Is the battery good?

Are the key batteries ok?

My Electronic Ignition Switch went the same way a year ago, only solution was to fit a new EIS. The new switch cost from an Indie was £450ish including fitting.

The switches arn't the type of device that can be repaired to my knowledge and the new switch has an activation 'green key' so not a DIY project.
