Internal lights on CLK

Hi

My 2000 CLK 320 Avantgarde interior lights do not come on when I remove the key (with or without sidelights on). Is this normal or is there a setting to activate? Having crawled through the user "book" I can find no reference to it. Can anyone out there shed some light on it?
