Hello All

Just yesterday took the big step of buying into MB ownership with a 1998 E240 estate so I thought I would post and say hello.

Prior to buying I had a good look on here and looked for and found the usual rust areas on the door tops etc.

The car was first registered on 26/10/1998, 2 days after the introduction of the 30 year mobilo warranty. History is all MB dealer apart from 1 recent service by an independant.

What do you all think my chances are with warranty repair, any suggestions or thoughts.

Thanks in advance

Russ

Hello there - and welcome to the world of Mercedes-Benz. Someone will be along soon to advise you (Television, usually) - but I would revise the date of first registration, as it is still 2007

Sounds like you may be lucky, but one word of caution. Some dealers are stating that you have to have owned the car for six months before they will entertain a claim. This is to stop people buying a rusty car cheap, having it repaired at MB's expense and then selling it on for a profit.

Worth a phone call to your dealer just to check.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Mobilo issues is not something that I get involved with much, Jberks is a better man, along with some others.

I feel that MB will say that you saw the rust when you bought the car, and that the break from MB service could have put an end to it.

See what others say

My local mot garage owner bought an E220cdi without full history and got two new wings without any bother, although he did have the car for more than 6 months before he took it in (MB Sunderland)

I believe that the problem with the 210 is localized . There is no history or indication that this problem has occurred over here. Has it got anything to do with salt being used on snow covered roads?

I'd suggest just calling in at the dealer. They may be ok but it's hit and miss. Aside from whether the cover is ok (given the indie service) a lot will depend on whether it's had any paint already. They do a depth check so any previous repairs will render the warranty dead anyway. You just can't tell what the reaction will be but it's well worth asking. If they need you to wait 6 months, they'll tell you to come back.
Go have a chat and in the mean tiome, enjoy your new motor. Smooth the 240 engine, isnt it.
Also, now you have it, make sure the gearbox oil and filters have been changed (if not, then get it done) and a new set of plug leads can work wonders.

Thanks for all the replies guys.....

The 240 is indeed a beautifully smooth motor and I am going to sort out the gearbox oil change.

I'll drop into my local dealer in Stafford in the next few weeks and see what transpires.

Cheers
