Hi everyone, just thought I would do this to introduce myself, and explain why I joined....

My name is Guy, and I am 38, the forum name is how long I have worked for Mercedes-Benz, I am a Parts Manager at a main dealer.

I was shown the forum by a 'lurker' friend, and decided to join to try and help you guys and gals.

I also want to give a 'dealers view' on some of the posts.....

If it is ok with the forum admin, I am happy to help with any parts related queries, but it would be best to contact me via work, as forums are frowned upon during work time.

My email for work purposes is guy.davenport at mercedes-benzofnottingham.co.uk please replace the at with an @....

Cheers for looking....

Guy

in all my years with owning cars and going to dealerships id say the best one is merc in cambridge as tony in the parts section is superb, as i cant get out of my car he bring all the stuff to me and trots back and forth with the credit card & doccuments and is always more than helpful when i have stupid questions

my only other dealings with merc is pboro and they are really good too

always good to have people on the inside on the site

Nah, Chris in Parts at Robinson's Norwich. Great guy, but then again, it appears that Guy is of the same ilk. Welcome Guy.

Welcome Guy.....nice to have someone from the dark side here. Anyway you will see plenty of negative comments about the MB network, but, you will also see fulsome praise of a few good ones and what makes them good.

I think too you will see what we want from the trade and its not always what MB or other manufacturers decide. We all have one aim, to improve service and share ideas and experiences. One important one for older cars is to know what older components are likely to fail and when. Hopefully you can help us all with that one too. Good luck!

Hi Guy (7 years)

500bhp Zodiac I ?? Do you have any pics? I know we should be asking about Merc pics, but I love the old Zodiacs. My old neighbour had (poss still has) a MkIII in Goodwood Green, I loved it so much I went out and found a similar one!

I do have a parts question for you, so I´ll send you an e-mail.

Pete.

How's this:

DSCN1636-copy.jpg

Pete, I will get the email on Monday, will reply if I can...!!!

I must admit that there IS a lot of negativity about MB main dealers (we should call them main retailers...), I do not feel that it is always true...

Don't forget I have to be careful what I say too, as it could be misconstrued as what MB actually think....!!!!

I kinda like my job too...!!!!

Cheers Guy,

That looks great! Did you modify it yourself or buy it like that? I definately don´t remember seeing that one at any shows!! Although it´s been a few years now. I used to go to the American Car Show at the Cheltenham Race Course, that always had a massive collection of cars.

I used to work for the main MB dealer in Swindon, before it went MB Direct, as a Technician so I wouldn´t have a bad word to say about them!!! I´ve been a Merc Man ever since.

Dealers here are very different though, one 2nd hand car in the showroom, no parts department, have to order everything except filters!! But a new one has opened near us, and so far has been 100%

Speak to you soon

Pete.

I bought it something like the above, it has had a V8 in since the '70s...

It now has a 'crate' GT40 spec (ali heads, hydraulic roller cam, roller rockers etc etc...) Perfromer RPM inlet, with a 670 Holley this is 350bhp, it also has 150 bhp of nitrous, to make it up to the 500....!!!

The gearbox is with Andy Frost of Red Victor II fame, and I am hoping for either low 12's or high 11's from it when the 'box comes back...

In it's previous, before breaking prop/gearbox, state it ran 12.900 @ 120 mph in the 1/4....

I am also building a Ford Pop roadster pickup from scratch...

Sorry to go too far O/T, but as I said, I am a self confessed gearhead!!!

Hi

Can you see if you can get front and rear mudflaps for a pre-facelift 210 estate. Some say they are unavailable now.

Oh and welcome.

Cheers
