Intruments not working 500SL

I replaced the green OVG relay in the back of the car in an attempt to cure the fact that all the dash borad lights were on. Initially this worked although the red SRS light stayed for a minute or so before going out.

Whilst on the test drive all the dash board lights went out but....none of the dash board intruments worked.

Parked the car, stopped the engine and restarted it......dash board lights all back on. No dash board instruments.

Anyone got any last thoughts before I remortgage the house and make my way to the Merc garage?

The SRS light staying on for a short time and then going out is normal, but the rest is not. Sorry to say this does look like a re-mortgage jobby. Star D is the next step.

I hope you can give it a lot of thought because i dont see any easier way than diagnotstic test.

Your diagnosis of anything electrical have not solved one thing yet eric If you do not know how it works,then please do not stir this post up.If this is an early car STAR is of no use anyway

:???: If you are refering to the green relay with a 30amp fuse on it, near the battery, this is the fuel pump fuse. It will not have any effect on dash lights.

You will have to wait a long time eric, I will back out of any threads from now on where you challenge me. It takes long enough to work out the faults without you on my back,you say that you do not understand what I post, the person with the problem normally does.

Look in the mirror eric your last 3 gearbox answers way out, the ML dont have folding mirrors,SLK way out, this thread only on "Star" way out,the ECUs in my SL are not ECUs, way out, as are most of the others.

There was no one answering electronic threads before I joined this forum, my success rate has been around 75% solved. I know by your post that you know little about car electrics, you should not join in unless you know the answer. It is not my intention to educate you when you keep asking me to explain. as you did on the 202 with fan on all of the time,and water level light on. My answer to the problem was correct and it solved all 3 threads with that fault, and you dare to tell me that I am wrong on the answers that I gave. thats this thread buggered up, are you happy now.
