I have been looking through some old posts about connecting the Iphone but I am still not sure what I can and cannot do.
I have the new C class with the COMMAND system so I can connect the iphone via bluetooth to use as a phone but I want to use the Iphone to play music. In the COMMAND handbook there is a section that shows an Ipod plugging into the aux socket in the glovebox. Now what I am not sure about is the cable used to connect the iphone. The manual shows a normal ipod connection plug to 3.5mm jack.
Does anyone know where I can find a cable like this and will this enable me to control the music with the COMMAND system?
All I can find for sale is 3.5mm to 3.5mm cables which I know will not allow control of music or something that uses the cigerette socket that allows you to charge up and play music.
Thanks in advance

Buy directly from iPod/Apple store. Usually the iPod's are not charged as MB changed some wiring (unlike other car manufacturers).

Last time I were at the Apple store at Lakeside, they had all cables.

You either need the Mercedes W204 ipod kit fitted or the new MMI but as you have comand the MMI is overkill.

I would just order and fit the ipod kit myself. Not too difficult and it will give you full control of the ipod from the steering wheel. Forget the 3.5mm AUX input its next to useless.

Does the Mercedes Ipod kit work in all C classes regardless of what stereo system you have?
I change the car every 9 months and the next one might not have the COMMAND system so I would want it to work in the next one I get.

The Mercedes kit works in all MOST based cars except the SL. there isnt a kit for the SL at all.

A new W204 can have ipod fitted regardless of whether comand is fitted or not. You might though want to look at the UMI kit instead. This gives a W204 which has audio20, ipod, usb and satellite navigation all for about £900.
