Seems there is a new gadget coming out next month which allows you to hook up your Ipod to the factory fitted audio system. Aplogies if this has been listed before, quite a new member here.

Info here:

www.ipodmycar.com

In most cars you can dock your ipod in the glovebox or a cradle and it tricks the head unit into thinking its a CD changer, Meaning you can control all functions from your steering wheel/audio system.

I have been told it will also display track informtion on the screen/dash! BUT I have since been told that you mercedes audio systems do not display CD text, meaning you can only control tracks but not see the titles.

Does anyone know if this is the case? I have a Audio 30 system in my SLK at the moment. Can that display CD text? Also, can the command 2.5? as I may upgarde soon?

Seems a good option if you did not get a cd changer, like me, and space is limited so seems a good soloution for £199.

Cheers

yes mb usa / ipod integration kit shows text on dash.

problem is availability in the UK and whether they can be fitted as an aftermarket option. MB Parts reckon install time is two hours. I'm not surprised by that as threads re radio changes allude to dismantling and replacing a lot of dash and trim.

we need somebody technical and entrepreneurial to ship kits from the US unless it becomes available in the UK pretty soon?

I'm guessing availability implications may include where the car is built. I dont foresee that South Africa (for RHD C-Class) will be top of the list but would like to be pleasantly suprised)

fortunately new c-class and some other models will soon come with standard chinch socket (aux-in) installed in the glove compartment. That will at least offer good sound quality if not track info, nor remote control, nor charging.

You could always buy an I-trip (about £25 on ebay) which works via radio frequency..usually 87.5 fm ..dont think they are legal in the UK though.

I spoke to someone at ipodmycar and they advised that the link will only work with fibre optic D2B protocol head untis - in English this means the command head unit only. The company are working on a link that will support the remaining head units and this is expected to be released in late June/early July.

One thing to note is that the tack display function will not work with any MB head units as they do not support CD text so I can't work out why the MB link shows this :?: :?: In effect you will just be able to play, pause, skip- FYI the link effectively fools the head unit into thinking it has a CD changer fitted.

COMAND and the CD multi changer can all show CD Text..or if they cant mine does so it must be faulty. The COMAND CD/DVD drive can do MP3 on cd too.
