iPod integration

Alfie, I am contemplating the same upgrade on my W203 (2002) with an Audio 30 I have retrofitted (Becker BE4718, MB part A 203 820 46 85).

I get different answers from different dealers on compatibility with my radio, that is after the initial astonishment that I dare to retrofit my own radio withou using a dealer :D

My research suggests that it wouldnt work because of the optical bus. Audio 30 uses D2B whereas the models that are being shown as compatible on the MB website are all MOST bus. But I dont know that much about them.

I am almost at the point of buying it anyway to see, from a dealer that says yes - but feel a bit exposed as I would be fitting it myself and may invalidate the integration kits warranty and thus be prevented from getting my money back if they were wrong.

Any advice would be appreciated.

2nd choice is Dension Gateway 500 - but this is quite a bit more expensive.

I assume it doesn't work with an late 04 E Class though? (Audio 20)

As an aside, I have discovered (after a year) that my cd changer does play MP3s. I now have most of my CDs loaded and still have 2 free slots in the changer and another in the head unit! No track names though.

I still use my monster cable with ipod mini just sitting in front of gear lever.
Ok I cant use the steering controls to change or see the tracks but I have different playlists set up for driving so just start b4 I set off and it automatically stops when engine off.
When I set off again I press play again nae bother Only problem is I have it set to 107 Fm and there is a station in Lanarkshire that is the same frequency so can interfere!!
That is only drawback I can see and a wee loss of quality which is barely noticeable!!
Cost approx$40 when in New York the other year:D

The only way to 'factory' fit an IPOD to a pre facelifted W203 is via the Aux in if you have COMAND. I'm not sure if the Becker unit has this capability. If it does, then all it will give you is an MP3 input with no charging of the IPOD or control from the steering wheel. You may be better off with a Dension or similar.

The Audio 30 APS (Becker BE4718) doesn't have any Aux in and uses D2B interface. As Alfie writes or change it for a COMAND or use some Dension kit like the Gateway 500 etc.

Many thanks

Thanks guys. The dealer finally admitted that it was not compatibile with the iPod integration. Dension Gateway 500 looks promising, COMAND a bit exensive and nowhere to put my sunglasses

Thats a good price you wont find the genuine parts much cheaper.

I fitted another IPOD interface to a W203 (2005) today. Took less than an hour to have the comand out, the interface in and working. Its not too difficult. Most awkward part is getting the glove box off, drilled and back on!
