There is a max volume limit set in the firmware of "recent" EU-supplied iPods which affects the volume throught the car's Aux socket (so we get deafened by TAs when they come through over the iPod).
You can run this http://gopod.free-go.net/# to remove the limit and raise the max headphone volume by 5db.
(connect the pod to your pc, run the file, press "go" and pod will reboot without the EU fix).
Makes a big difference, at least to my 60Gb iPod video.
I don't know if this affects the volume via the connector (for those with the iPod integration) - anyone care to check?
