I own a 1999 CLK 230K Auto cabriolet and have recently come across an irritating rattle which appears to come from the vicinity of the passsenger door area. It is extremely annoying and persistent. Does anyone out there know what I'm talking about? If, by chance, you do have the same noise then please share it with me?

Hi

You give a very brief description of your fault, the only common thing that comes to mind is the door check strap being loose you need to remove the door lining to check .

Hello Moto!
Yes, there is a good reason for my brief description regarding rattle. I do not know exactly in which area it is coming from? Could you please elaborate a bit further, as I do not know what specific part you mean.........sorry!
:D

Just had a similar problem in the driver's side door of my C180. A very light but very irritating rattling at lowish revs and usually on slightly rough roads. Couldn't find anything loose anywhere but gentle pressure anywhere on the door trim stopped it. Eventually I found a suggestion in the archives of this board which, although I thought unlikely, solved the rattle, which turned out to be from the door catch. I've temporarily put a thin piece of card in between the two pieces of the catch, and the rattle has gone. A dollop of grease or having the catch adjusted will probably prove to be the permanent solution.
Maybe it's the same problem in your case.

Been there done that...took M-B stealer 4 attempts to stop my C180K rattling...was the passenger seat belt mechanism in the end. Odd thing was that the sound seemed to come from the roof lining/door.
