Is it leather or MB Tex?

I bought my 97R E300TD from a Merc dealer with what was advertised as leather trim. I didn't doubt this at first as the car is well spec'd electric seats, full climate etc. It's now become obvious as the car has aged, that the centre armrest is not leather covered. How can I tell for sure if my seats are cow or chemical???

Cheers, Jonathan.

E300 TD. 200k and going strong.

You need the option codes from the vehicle data sheet, only way to be sure.

The people on the American forums rate MB Tex higher than cow, so nothing to be worried about if it is MB Tex, it will last longer than leather.

Cheers,

Richard

Are the door card inserts smooth or ruffled?

Smooth = MBtex, Ruffled = Leather

agreed. Leather Twin as it's now known looks real good and is great value for money (not cheap you understand).

If there is piping on the armrest, the piping itself may not be leather.

Your Mercedes
as stated
I have the Recommended Price List for Cars and Factory Fitted Extras as at October 83 and for my 500SEL Leather is quoted as a "free option".

You would think that everyone would go for it, but maybe not.

My seats are sprung and decidedly bouncy after twenty years. Lether surely is foam filled?

Took out the Rear seat and turned it over. Fronting is definately a form of plastic, but stitched to it looks remarkably like the underside of leather.

Does MB Tex have an underside which looks like leather? Also, Cars with that breathing perforated centre section, are they likely to be MB Tex or did they do the same in Leather?

Haven't checked the link to Russia - bit too cautious to link to anything Russian and giving away vehicle data. With apols to our Soviet friends it's just the way life is these days.
