I am currently looking for a C class estate and have just viewed two at separate locations. The first (V '99 C200 Classic) with 75,000 miles was just starting to show signs of rust along the bottom edge of the taiolgate, along the weld seam.

The second (S '98 C200 TD250) wityh 85,00 miles had quite extensive corrosion along the same weld seam. Whereas the first one was only a couple of inches or so and just starting to show signs of corrosion, the TD was about 8 to 9 inches long and paint had come off leaving flaking rusting metal beneath.

What I was wondering is this a problem generally with the C Class estates or have I just dropped on two poor examples?

PS the two cars were otherwise immaculate. :?:

My dad bought a 99 C220CDI from a mailn dealer at Christmas, and this too has rust along the bottom seam, and also starting to bubble up the side seams of the tailgate.

Guess this is a common fault, obviously this will be fixed by the dealer, fingers crossed!

He has thirty days no-quibble return if not!

My tailgate developed exactly the same problem a couple of months ago. Reported it to the dealer and had the whole tailgate replaced under the Mobilo warranty thing. No hassle.

Get your dealer to do an Eskulab (he'll know) and ask for a replacement panel as repairs are short term (1 year tops) if answer no then keep at the dealer, they will do it in the end (bad publicity)
