looking at my c220 (1995) W202, the OVP is on the left side of the engine compartment under a black plastic covering where you'd expect to find the battery, except the battery isnt there (it's in the boot instead) just a whole bunch of electronics, the OVP itself is rectangular in shape and has a clear plastic top with a fuse in the top of it. I dont have a photo of my OVP but here is one of the black plastic covering, and the OVP is underneath it.

Hi Anyweb, Thanks for your photo but unfortunately, the arrangement is different from my car. I think I will take off the main fuse box and take a look whether it is insdie or not ( it is in the same side of your black cover except that it's a lot smaller, about 5" x 12" ). Thanks for your quick reply !

this is a very responsive forum

So many reply in such a short time !

Thanks all

Reason why I want to replace the OVP Relay is that my car can’t start twice. The first time, my wife call the garage to towed it and after 2 days, they said that they fixed the problem by replacing my review mirror console and pass me the hefty bill ! Then the second time, I tried to look up where the Relay is but couldn’t locate it and the whole car went died again and not a single electrical things inside the car work at all, can’t lock the door, no headlights just 100% dead ! Then, in the next morning, I disconnect the grounding in the battery and put it back on after 5 minutes, then bingo, back to normal again.

That is why I want to replace the OVP Relay and see if it can fixed this problem !

That will not solve your problem, if the headlamps did not work then you have a bad ground or + connection on the battery, the leads should be taken off wire brushed lightly greased and put back.

It was not just the headlamps, it was ALL electrical things in the car, no vanity light, no CD, no .... so, I think it may be the problem of the OVP Relay

No not the OVP the car will run without it.

This is a battery connection problem or even a faulty battery

yup! gonna check the 6 months " new " battery tomorrow. Possibly, a rusted grounding clamp may be causing all these problems. Gonna check and clean all the clamps and terminals tomorrow. Well thanks for your suggestion , mate !!

I agree with Malcolm completely. The OVP relay problem is usually found on older Mercs say early 90's and 80's models.

Only time I 've ever had no electric at all was when the main engine fuse went and that was on a Renault. The fuse strip had corroded through.

Hi Stevie A - Thanks and yes as Television mentioned that OVP seems to be an optional item for W202 1997 - C230K, I couldn't find OVP Relay listed in my car's parts anyway.

Is there any main fuse for Mercedez ?? like you said in your Renault ??

on the W202 the OVP is in the boot, lift the boot carpet, see battery on the right side and to the left of the battery is a big green relay with a fuse on the top, thats the OVP, if you have a problem then spike the relay, remove the relay with battery connected and then replace the relay, then start the car.
Get a new relay from eurocarparts half the price of MB, my dads 320CE 1995 had a failed OVP only way to get around it was to remove and refit, car started after that.

the OVP is definetly in the front of my engine bay as described earlier, and my car is a W202, so obviously there must be changes in location for the OVP on the W202 depending on how old the car is.

however, as others have already said, i don't think this is an OVP problem. sounds more like dodgy wiring/bad battery.

cheers

Hi jibcl500, that's sound correct to me as I look thru the firwall section and couldn't find the OVP Relay. Thanks for your advise of spiking on the relay ! Yes, going to clean the Battery Terminals and Connectors tonight and will try to locate the OVP there in the same time !

Another thing to check is the fuses, make sure they all look clean, if they dont then replace them.

When I did some work on my dads 320CE I replaced most of his fuses as they where quite rough as a result the air con came back to life, this is after dad had spent alot of dosh trying to get MB to fix it with no result.
