Hi All,
I've got used to my 260E now, and apart from a seized rear window regulator, I'm a happy man. I have a niggling question though- can anyone offer a hand with this one?
The car is a 1986 model, and has a factory fitted alarm. I have both the square and round headed keys, the square headed one alarms the car if used to lock it.

So far so good.

If you unlock the car with the square headed key, from the same door you locked it at, no problem. If you unlock it from the opposite door, ie passenger side if you locked on the drivers side- alarm goes off.

Anyone else have any idea if this is normal? The owners manual makes no mention of it.

Cheers
Daniel

Funny you should mention that, i was just about to make a post about the alarm on my 190e. I presume yours is a Scorpion? I would imagine that the switch that sets the alarm has to disarm it as well, hence the need to use the same lock. According to the Haynes manual its only the square key that works. Th round headed one wont arm or disarm it.

My post was going to be, up until last night i thought the alarm was set by using a remote, however the Haynes manual states that its operated by the key...which i now know is true. Mine dosent seem to work. Is there anything special you have to do when locking the car to get the alarm to set? if not, is the switch that sets it attached to the back of the door lock barrel? as per Dagenhams finest selection of cars?

Let me know

Cheers

Hi Matt,
Couldn't tell you about the make- no marks. The round headed key will not set the alarm if used to lock the car.
I don't have to do anything special to set the alarm, just lock the car with the square headed key from either front door or the boot. A s too switches, Ive not looked.

Cheers
Dan
