Is this a reasonable repair cost for an SMS fault

Hi all.

This seems like a great forum. I came across it whils searching the internet over a problem I have on my S350.

It manifests itself with a warning light on start up which states. " Restr. Sys. Defect. SRS. Visit Workshop" together with an SMS light.

The first vist to the garage cost me £50 +Vat. 'Something' was cleaned and the fault went away but returned a day later.

On the second visit the garage identified the fault as originating in the seat buckle and have given me the following options:

1. Fit a new buckle at £92+vat together with 2.5 hours work to take out and repace the seat at £50+vat per hour. Total cost of £250.

2 Take out and replace the seat but try to repair the buckle. Cost minimum of £150. The fault may then reappear in which case add the cost above to sort it.

Questions: Is this a reasonable approach to the problem and a realistic price to pay for a resolution to the problem?

I would much appreciate some help or advice on this matter.

Many thanks,

Steve

Hello and welcome, my approach would have been to have turned off the warning, and then moving the connectors under the passenger seat, tapping the seat belt buckle. If no one has been in the passenger seat, I cant think how that could be the problem.

If the codes said "buckle" then it needs to be changed, you can do it your self,

This is a misconception of the fault code, it comes up with the buckle but it is in fact the connector plug as malc said under the seat, the plug has to cut out and a new put in to the loom, if this isnt done then the fault will return!!
