What a Bl**dy morning, my lexus went at the weekend so Im in the SL as my daily drive, my car went into Mercedes a couple of weeks ago, they did the customary safety checks and told me one of my rear tyres was amber, so I trundles off the ATS who tell me its got an average of 4m and it ok for a few months.

this morning on the way to work it started to go flat, I stopped got the electric pump out, wouldn't touch it , limped 1/4 mile to the garage airline out of order, limped 1/2 to the garage, shut, waited an hour for it to open as them to repair it, they fine a 6 inch split in the middle of the tyre, looks like its seperated, ok put me a new tyre on, sorry none in stock, £550 Saturday before it will arrive, Sod it. limp 2 miles to work at 10 mph stopping every few hundred yards, call ATS , please fix my tyre, none in uk 3 days to get one from Germany.

Getting a bit peeved now, Im thinking 4 years in my lexus no flat tyres no breakdowns grumble grumble, couple of weeks back in a Merc and Im stranded because of these silly fat tyres.

etyres are coming to the rescue tomorrow between 12-2 fully fitted and balanced £348.

I just hope the cars where I left it and the wheels are still on it in the morning.

I think I will order another tyre and keep it in my garage, or boot I suppose would make more sense.

Just kidding!

I've not had this much trouble getting a tyre since I was trying to replace a split General Grabber on a wolfrace rim on my old 66 mustang around 33 years ago.

How many tyres are you getting for that??
I suspect the lack of availability has more to do with the economy than anything else. I've found it harder to source mine in the last few months - I suspect people aren't carrying as much stock of the obscure sizes as they used to.

I have just renewed the tyres all round on my W220. I used an on-line provider (www.blackcircles.com ). You specify the tyres and they offer a choice of local garages (franchised I suppose) who will fit them for you. Or you can choose to have them fitted at your home or place of your choice for a small extra charge.

Prices were very competitive (£465 all round, includes fitting, valve, balancing and carcass disposal). I am sure they are not unique, but they impressed me and the website works well.

I have the advantage on the S and SL of same size tyres front and back, which makes life easy and means you only need one size of spare tyre. Quaint and old fashioned, but I got 38,500 from a set of Contis and changed them at 3mm all round. Bought the same again - they are nice and quiet. ;)

Only if you have the tyre pressure monitors, and you do that in the Dash,, not with only one tyre though.

that explains it - 245s are too big really. 305s are just silly! I bet they look nice though. ;-)

with a side wall of 25 they are no more than elastic bands :D

it said ABC visit workshop

changing a tyre wouldn't put ABC on the dash, that's active body control, could be they have jacked the car up with the ign on, putting the car to its full ride height and then back down would cure that ,if that is the case!!
