I'd like a change of car and am looking at hybrids (HEVS for me as no charging at home and retired, so no workplace) - and with unreliable hybrids from Mercedes I think I may have to go the Toyota route. My local main dealer has a 2019 Corolla Design 2.0l demonstrator for sale with miles at 20k and a price of £18.5k. With those miles over two years I imagine it's not only been a demonstrator (anyone know average miles for demo's over a year?) but also an employee's daily commute. With so many miles and probable drivers is it worth buying at that price (will it be ok etc., etc.) or should I go for a new one at Carwows price of around £24.5k? I know you may be thinking it's horses for courses, but your thoughts appreciated as always. Thanks.

If you have the funds then go for new one.

There will probably some subtle upgrades over the previous model plus you will get the full 5 years warranty.

I think a new car will be worth £6K more as long as you have the funds

Given the 2 choices I would definitely pick the brand new one!
The 2 year old one owned by the dealer from new will most likely have suffered a certain amount of abuse having been driven by many different people over its 20,000 miles, so I wouldn't even consider it.
You are retired so want trouble free motoring and the brand new car will come with a 3 year/60k miles manufacturers warranty, which will then renew on a 12 month/10k miles basis when you have it serviced at a Toyota dealer.
Just to balance it out the 2019 car will have the remainder of its 5 year manufacturers waranty, but in its third year may not be as comprehensive as the new one.
Also as said the new car is likely to have improvements and a higher level of standard equipment.
Buy the new car, definitely! :)

Too many miles for an ex demonstrator.

I bought a E350CDI demonstrator from Mercedes 10 years ago, it was 8 months old 7,600 miles for £32,000. The new price at the time was well over £50,000. They also agreed a 12 month free service, & a new pair of rear tyres on the service. I have only had one minor fault in my ownership, & no intention of selling it.
In your case I don't think the saving is worth the risk, I would buy new.

The mileage is too high for a demo, more likely been a car thats at the dealership for loans during service in addition to being a demo and being taken home every now and then by emoloyees. So its had everyone inside it.

I would get a new one given the price difference and with the spec you want and ask for a discount.

Better value given the mileage and price of the "demo".

But as Blobcat says that CLS is alot of car.

No... You're retired, get something Like this instead
Yes, I know, a lovely car. Rather bigger and more thirsty and all petrol - and all my life i've been on that road, so now I'd sorta like to help the environment a tiny bit before it's all too late. And why do so many Mercedes (and others) have to be black inside and out?!

If you want to help the environment in any way at all, maintain what you have and keep that going. Hybrids and EV's are so bad for the environment as to be off the scale  - however it's "policy" (at the moment) so drivers are being pushed into them. Don't be a sheeple ;)

Find a V8 that's already been made, maintain, use and enjoy whilst you still can.

I get the fixed income bit, how many miles do you actually cover? You might find the costs for a V6 or V8 won't be prohibitive - I commute in either the SLK or 911 - life is wayyyyyyyyy too short to driving boring cars (no pockets in a shroud...);)

And that's why I drive Mercedes........Good for the environment and good for my ego :D

Have you considered a Lexus? I had a GS450H ticked many boxes, Hybrid so fuel efficient, married to a 3.5l V6 engine so went like the clappers and being a Lexus bomb proof and a little more prestigious than a Toyota....

Boring compared to the SL500AMGSPORT V8 I now drive but it never let me down..

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
I agree it won't have just been a demo - most demos swapped at 3 or 6 months old, unlikely to have more than 8-12k on them - probably a daily rental such as Enterprise / Avis

We are all different in what we want from a car and according to what he says the OP is looking for a hybrid with a solid manufacturers warranty, not a 6 year old Mercedes no matter how nice it may be.

People are just offering advice and opinions based on knowledge and experience.
If its purely an environmental decision which I dont think is bad per se, there are better ways to address this.
Me personally I use my pedal push bike more wheras before I would a car. I would not invest in a electric car.
