Battery was showing 2.4 volts, since basically dead.
It will show as an error on my charger when I connect it.
So I am trying this to boost it a little off the Money Pit while it is left idling.
Checking the 2.4 volt battery it showed 16.7 volts, 2 minutes in 13.7.
Will this give me enough volts so I can start charging it on the charger?
Many thanks in advance :)

Answered my own question. Yes is will start to charge, it has gone from 2.4 volts to 3.69 volts. But 35 minutes of idling can't be good for Money Pit especially as the rear air bags have decided to deflate. :(

Haven't checked the dates on it Mark.
I don't think it is as old as the engine bay battery, that's 2003.
SL battery won't hold charge, Money Pits battery won't hold charge either, both are 3 years old from MB

I don't really understand that statement but 16.7 volts sounds dangerously high. Was that with the engine idling?

I would hope for mo more than 14.7, or thereabouts.

Strange buy new car batt good 8.10 Yr. Buy same batt after that it's screwed in 3 Yr? Seems batt supplied to maker is NOT the same as one we buy later even when batt details are the same.

Connect duff battery to good-ish battery with jump leads then add charger so it effectively charges both? Hopefully the good battery will keep the voltage up enough to kick the charger into action. You can always drop a lead off the good battery after a few hours to see if the charger is happy just charging the duffer..

16.7 volt reading on the multi meter when I first connected it to the boot battery after I started the car. It dropped reading high a few minutes after the car was running, 15, 14.9, then settled at 13.7 volts.

Thanks David, I wasn't sure if I could do that with the jumper leads while charging another battery.
I will do this tonight and hopefully in the morning it will have a charge.

The smart (?) chargers/conditioners have a low voltage setting that if below they will not start. I usually use another battery in parallel to get them going and disconnect after a couple of hours to check the voltage.

Thanks for that, yes it is a smart charger, I've 2 other proper chargers, one, my neighbour has commandeered, and my other one I can't find. I have keys to his house, so not an issue if I want it :D
