Thinking about buying my 1st MB.  I want it to be an older model.  I remember as a kid (early 70's), the neighbor across the street had a 4-door with some sort of barrel-type (?) speedometer that changed colors as acceleration increased.

Any idea what model this would have been?

I don't know about the 70's, but in the mid 60's my father had a 220se 4 door sallon which had a vertical column speedometer. This changed colur as the speed rose using a mix of diagonal yellow and/or red lines. So at slow speed there were yellow lines at mid speed these changed to yellow and red and at high speed (above 90mph?) it was all red.
