I heard this on the news this morning, saying they'd be allowed on the motorway but the self driving is only up to 37mph... o_Oo_O:shock::shock:

I know nothing about this, but feel already I have some very strong opinions, which is ironic. I don't think I'll be an early adopter, Mrs. 55 has a driving phobia.

Best wait to see what happens.

I can just see the headline, Driverless Coach Plunges into Traffic in M25 Fireball etc.

There are just too many car owning dumb people for self driving cars to be legalised. I bet the lawyers are rubbing their hands with glee...

We've all heard the story of the campervan owner that set his cruise control and then went in the back to make a coffee.....

I don't fancy owning a car dealership either!

Drove past a school yesterday at 3pm and you had to have your eyes on stalks ......!

Would a computer see the kids and smaller ones talking to each other behind parked cars where you can see they are gestering to come in over and them just stepping out...
Or future McD employees / teenage lads just stepping out to prove how they don't care....
Or teenage mums on mobiles not watching their 3 year olds as they see a cat and run out to stroke it....

Genuinely scary as the driver sees all of this before it happens and slows, plans or even stops whilst a radar or camera scoped computer can only react to what's happening or has happened.

Even worse to come, we are getting self drive lorries in at work by the end of the year!
We have some 70 plate mirrorless ones that also recognise roundabouts stop signs and emanant danger. It's really quite scary as you think they aren't going to stop with there last minute braking.
The next ones coming will be able to recognise vehicles at roundabouts, brake and steer automatically around the roundabouts too.......We've been told that we are not to take our eyes off the road which means no jumping into the bunks or passenger seat and ready girly magazines while driving! Driving? who's going to be driving?? Think I might try and take early retirement

Times are changing and ‘risk‘ seems to be the order of the day

- ‘driverless cars’
- ‘all lane running’ motorways
- ‘drone’ parcel delivery

It seems to me that there is little debate about what is going on. There was a time when a public enquiry was the order of the day to come to a conclusion on what is an acceptable public risk - or am I just being old fashioned...

Ohh forgot one that’s already with us

- electric scooters

The camera mirrors are great for fuel economy, not so great for the driver as they can’t move around to get a different view in the mirrors to check for bikers / cyclists etc

Smart + others :)
Why just why? We are taught to always be aware of our surroundings especially when driving, this is teaching people to switch off when in charge of what could be a leathal weapon.

The technology is there so they have to find a way of selling it. Finding a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

I think that is the only reason to save fuel !
Once the lorry turns the camera follows the rear end of the trailer, so you still have blind spots.......I rather watch a ladies rear end, and end up with blind spots :D
