Monday - Gym and then choir practise
Tuesday - Play with the watermill
Wednesday - Day out with SWMBO
Thursday - Play with the watermill again
Friday - Clean the mud off the car
Saturday - Different choir practise
Sunday - Church & Sunday dinner

Every weekday - listen to the traffic reports and fall about laughing.

I don't have time to go to work any more. Good, ain't it.

Retirement? A Concept.

I thought retirement would mean an end to early rising, windy platforms, staying ahead of the rush hour, completing the weekend e-mail before 9 a.m. Monday and, after the joy of the 5 day working week, living your whole real life in 2 breathless days at the "weekend".

Not so. It meant a sudden cessation of salary, but little else. People learn that you are around more, so you get a blend of "the lord makes work for idle hands", and "if you want a job done, give it to a busy person".

So relaxed retirement remains a concept - possibly an aspiration.

But now I am busy doing things I want to do. Philosophically, it is a privilege (not every generation has enjoyed retirement, and future generations might not), an opportunity to "pay back" all the favours and treats people have done for me, and time to savor the concept of "enough". Enough health, enough money, enough interests to enjoy all the good stuff that was outside my tunnel vision during the working years.

In the words of the Cheryl Crowe song, "it's not getting what you want" that matters, but wanting what you've got.

If you won the lottery tomorrow it would not make you a better person. Indeed, would it alter that much? Oscar Wilde explained to us that by being born in Western Europe, we had already "won the lottery of life".

Now I am enjoying the winnings to the full.

We seem to have similar problems. Can I suggest my solution :- write your name in large letters on the ceiling over the bed where you can see it when you awake ! Keep your bins on the bedside table !

Done that but on the odd occasion when reading it I have asked myself and anyone else listening "who the BH is that?" can't say as I have has a sensible answer yet though:confused:

Glad to hear you have the same problem. Still the pool provides refreshing relaxation after cutting the grass on the Helipad!

My gardener does that Alex ?

You haven't seen the state of my gardener. I just feel it would be inhuman - especially when you see the size of the helipad!

But don't tell anyone else - they'll think I'm contemplating politics. ;)

But once you have a chopper, you can use it as a lawn sweeper, just proving the point that once you make enough money it takes care of its self.
