...and I'm bored with it already. The one rule of the game is to find the engine number on a W208 CLK320 Sport. Why? Well, the previous owner sadly threw off his immortality coat and I bought the car from his son who brokered the deal for the deceased's wife. Unfortunately the logbook, MOT and private plate papers are missing.
I've got a form V62 off the DVLA site to gain logbook in my name, but it requires engine number. According to owner's handbook and the red arrow pointing to the bulkhead, it's there. I'll be jiggered if I can see anything. Does anyone if it's behind the soundproof material or do I need stronger prescription specs?

Put your VIN into this site and you will get all the details you require:
http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng

It might also be worth comparing it with the one on the engine when you find it, but at least you will know what to look for.

Mikes link should give you the info, the engine number is on the main block where it meets the sump, and it is stamped in to the top of the edge where where the sump bolts on, often on the exhaust side

Again the brains rule...

Thank you for all your help on the numbers. Very, very much appreciated.
I went to the link for the eng' number and it asked for the VIN number. Again the handbook shows a red arrow pointing at what I assume to be a piece of carpet that lifts like a flap (as in most cars). But no. Not what I can find. But then spotted the 17 digit number through the screen. Yee-har -- or am I celebrating too early?

Failing that, just phone Mercs with your chassis number, should start 208365 or 208465 if it's a convertable. Engine number will probably start 112940

Two Chins---No numbers is not a game you want to get involved with--Most stolen cars / engines have the numbers ground off ? watch out for the blue flashing lights arriving soon!?
