When I traded in my CLK back in April 2006 I could only find one key for it. I promised that when I found the other one, that I would send it on. I have now, 18 months later, found the key but the trader isn't interested in helping me track down the new owner.

So I thought I would go through the DVLA but they want to charge me £5 for the privilege of putting me in touch with the new owner. So I thought I'd put an appeal out on this site.

If you have a blue 03/52 CLK320 Cabriolet Final Edition and only one key, get in touch....

Get it from the DVLA and pay the £5

I'm sure the current owners would pay you back as it is in their best interest for security reasons and it would cost them nearly £150 to get a new key.

Hello,

My guess if buying a fairly new car such as that they probably got one straight away as I would hate to only have the one.

At that time do mercedes re program the unit so in effect even if you spotted your car the remote part would not work?

Nice to try and get in touch though and what a miserable dealer thay will not help?

Just pay DVLA the £5 for the info.

I'm sure the new owner will gladly pay you back when you tell them you have a key for their Merc and you know where they live!!!!!!

put it in the bin.
Chances are the next owner stipulated a new key as part of the deal when they bought it so they already have 2 and have probably programmed the old one out. I wouldn't drive yourself mad with it.

That is what a lot of people do, however I wouldn't list details of the car it came from....

I guess my point is that rather than saying, "Sure we'll help you", I got short shrift from the dealer and the DVLA told me I have to fill in a form and post it to them along with £5 for the privilege. It almost falls into the "too hard, I can't be bothered" camp.

Take a gamble on £5 then tell the owner it cost you £40, then you can do your Xmas shopping with that

And programming out is irreversable, so chances are it's not worth bothering.
