As in the title.

Shortly after voting that I had no rust I came upon the villianous ferrous oxide happily oxidising around the repeater indicator on the driver's side. I have taken it to the dealer, who has sent photos to MB and am waiting for a reply. What a disappointment  .

Helen..Just be eternally grateful that you haven't got a rusty undercarriage.!

Perhaps, just perhaps, you ought to amend your 'signature' - you now have a blemished character.... :)

So has the car.

The once most gorgeous - now rusty - 2001 SL 320 in the world - only 54K miles, and slowly rotting away.

Job done!

What more can I say?

Actually, just a quick thought, could this be the car changing catalyst?

They ALL return to Mother Nature - eventually. Some quicker than others.

Earth to Earth, Dust to Dust, Rust to Rust - n'all that... :(

It's only a little bit of rust - hardly a full-blown restoration project. I know, I know - a face pimple always feels like a carbuncle to the owner ...... have faith, all will be well.

It sounds like the wing has previously been resprayed or the repeater has been pushed back too hard to chip the edge of the paint. Unlikely MB will approve a repair to be honest if this is the case.

Good luck though!

There have been a couple of corrosion issues with the aluminium roof and welding in the spare wheel well that I know of - but no bodywork corrosion that hasn't been brought on by external perforation of the paint.

I have just booked my car in to have the rust sorted courtesy of MB. Wonders will never cease and I can now have a nice blemish-free car. :D

Hi

I now have a nice blemish-free car, courtesy of the local bodyshop, having had all the usual corrosion problems sorted about 12 months ago. No further rust has appeared but I keep a watchful eye open, just in case.

However, having suffered rust, even if for the first time, it does seem to sew the seeds in the subconscious that ones pride and joy will have to be replaced, maybe sooner than planned.

I wonder how much longer Helen would keep this car if she hadn't discovered the corrosion? Is the clock now ticking away, counting down to replacement?

REGARDS

Phil

Phil, you are probably so right. I think it may be changed in the summer.

The rust on my front wing has been repaired and it looks very nice. It's just a shame that there's a bit on the roof just by the bottom of the rear window which, judging by this forum, is a known rust area. It's going to be removed very soon when it's been authorised. I'm happy :D .
