Hi all

In Pakistan a lot of cars are imported from Japan, and as you'll know from japanese grey imports to England, the FM radio frequency range is quite limited in Japan.

Is there a way to convert the radios to catch European FM frequency range? (which is the same as Pakistan) Is this software coded or hardware coded? For example it's possible to change command functions, like playing movie dvd's on the move, by pressing a special sequence of keys. Is there something similar for the FM frequency adjustment.

Will carsoft or star diagnostics allow one to adjust this?

Thanks

I do not think that this program is in any diagnostic equipment, in fact I know its not. Cars that come from Japan as you say only tune up to 89khz I have tried to get this info many times and the radio makers say that it is a different front end in the tuner section, chipped or otherwise, I have never been able to solve the problem. I cant speak about Command though.

Over the holiday i will try and catch up with an old freind who does nothing but car radio service, and my other pal who has just imported this huge Toyota from Japan, that shares a space with his new S class. A couple of months ago I told him to check to see if a soft ware change is possible.

Thanks, but the problem seems to be that the adapters will not display the correct FM value on the display, which is not ideal. I would be surprised if the FM radios for the Japanese market were different hardware wise than UK models, they are probably just running different software. (I'm only guessing so could be wrong). Does anyone have access to DAS or Carsoft and know if this can be changed through the diagnostic equipment.

Some radios can show either frequency or station name, in which case the freq display may be incorrect but station ought to be OK. DAS I have no info and Carsoft don't appear to offer radio diognostic kit, but other posters may have better info, so keep your fingers crossed. Good luck!

I think that if you got hold of a service manual for the radio, you could check the options. most of the front ends are now in a all in one chip.
I will see my friend in a couple of days to see how he got on.
