The change up from 1st. to 2nd. on the autobox on my W203 C320 is very jerky once the engine has warmed up. To avoid this I am using winter mode most of the time so as to miss out 1st gear.
Do you think a change of auto-fluid and a check out at a MB workshop might help?

have you had the car for long? I have had mine for about 10 months now and the first couple of gear changes are always extremely jerky (4th/5th are ok). I have taken to using the winter setting too. I think it is a "feature" of the 5 speed electronic box.

Mine is in for a B service on Thursday and I have asked the stealer to check into the gearbox thing so I'll let you know what is said.

The gearboxes are apparently "sealed for life" so you'll not have much luck with a fluid change.

Hello. The sealed for life policy is now finished. It is now recomended that you change the filer and oil at 60k miles. Most people comment that the box is much smoother after the change.

You have an electric box the will hold 1st and 2nd longer to warm up the CAT quickly, then return to normal.

Hi Malcom, Sorry for being a bit dense but I assume from your comment that "sealed for life" doesn't actually mean it is a sealed box. I assume there is actually some way of getting the fluid in and out? Was the "sealed for life" thing a poilcy rather than a physical restriction?

Hi omni. MB along with ZF thought that gearboxes would be ok for life and sealed as such. It has come to light that this policy does not work, so they are now saying "change oil and filter at 60k miles".

Cars are still comming through with a sealed cap on the box, if you want to do it yourself you break off the seal, buy a dipsick and new seal.

Of the 10 cars that i know where the oil has been changed, everyone has reported much smoother changes.

Best regards Malcolm

Does anyone know how high the standard torque converter is on these? I stall mine to 2 grand but now I'm worried as mine has never been serviced to my knowledge.

Mine was exactly the same .........then I found out I had a fluid leak so got the oil (what was left of it !!) dropped, replaced & filter done ..........

Smooth as a babies bum now ..........
