Juddering C class

Hi all, my 2002 C 220 CDI has a problem at tickover in that it shakes quite badly. It's almost like the tickover is too low, which it isn't. I have read a few threads and might try an injector cleaner, any recommendations as to which product.
It is due a B service in 1200 miles which is normally done at MB as they charge the same as my local indie so they might identify something (forwarned is forarmed and all that!).
Any other suggestions as to why this might occur?

Possibly the EGR valve is stuck open

Hi Malcolm, can I ask what is the EGR valve, where is it and being an ex Army vehicle mechanic is resolvable myself?

Hi, forgot to add, when I rev it slowly, it is juddery until about 12-1300 rpm when it then appears to become normal. No excessive fuel consimption.

This is the valve that returns harmful gases back to the inlet.

Many people just blank them off.

Forgot to say that you will find it on the exhaust manifold
