Can anyone help re opening the boot on a CLK??

My battery was flat. Took it out to recharge and closed the boot in the mistaken belief that i would be able to open the boot again using the emergency key

The key goes in but will not turn and therefore the boot won't open.

I can get inside the car but obviously can't get access to the boot unless i cause damage to parcel shelf to reach through to the seat cables underneath.

I had thought of connecting a battery to the alternator but its packed in so tight i can't get at it from above and car is parked on a slope which makes jacking the car doubtful :???:

I know other Mercs have an emergency plug under the bonnet for conecting leads but buggered if i can find anything about it in my handbook.

All i need is enough power to release the boot lock.

If i connected power through the cigarette lighter - would this work or is there any other method of connecting power?

The key will work but its stiff to turn.

You could open the fuse box and find the side lamp fuse, turn them on and put the 12v onto that fuse.

The cigar lighter is only Key one thats if the key will turn with no power.

The starter motor is accessible by removing the near side rear part of the front wheel arch liner, its the large cable

if you have a volt meter the fuses are all in line by taking out a few fuses, you will find the bus bar thats the side of the fuse that is the live side an ohm meter will find this as there will be no resistance

Thanks to everyone that replied.

Located the black box with big X on top on RHS of firewall under bonnet. Connected positive to that and earthed to engine block which put power into system and enabled me to get the boot open.

Pheww!

Oh yes - as for the emergency key in the boot lock - tried in vein to get it to turn but won't. Spent 30mins trying to persuad it with can of WD40 in hope it would free it up but all i can get is very slight movement side to side, no more than that!

Judging by how hard it was to get the key into the lock in the first place, im guessing nobody has ever used the key in the lock before and it's completely seized up.

WD40 should not be used near lock it xan cause the tumblers to stick. PTFE or silicon is much better
