i've got a 1999 clk 230k. the battery has gone completely flat and won't operate the central locking. i've now discovered that i have a faulty lock on the boot so can't open the boot manualy. the battery is in the boot so i can't access it to jump start the car. is there anywhere in the engine bay that i can use to jump start or is there some secret manual way of releasing the boot from inside the car? (back seats are locked). if not is there anyway to pressurise the central locking? i've asked mercedes and they want to collect, drill lock and fit new battery for around £500!!

jack the front of the car up, use axel stands. then locate the alternator, and connect another working battery to the positive connection, and connect the negative or earth to some metal on the engine bay

the alternator is obviously directly connected to the battery so that should be good enough to get the boot lid open.

No need to do that. There is a connector inside the engine compartment where you can hook the jump cables, usually on the top of the driver's side wheel arch. Most people just connect things and that gives you power to open the trunk. Then they jump from the battery itself. Look for a small rectangular black box with what looks like an X molded into it. Pop that up and you will find two big cable connectors. Connect positive to one of those and your ground lead to a good ground on the engine itself.

you could all ways take up the passanger side carpet to reveal the battery connect terminal circled in the pix and jump or just give the car power again.

some times too tho the boot lock is ok - it just needs working free!!! put the key in and do the unlocking motion with the key for sometimes upto 20mins!!
it should then come free and unlock the boot - hope something here helps! :p

This should be there on a 1999 CLK. There was one on my 2000 E class but it's annoying missing from my 2004 E class.
The starter motor is a normal place to hook up from but any of the places mentioned should work.
Any dealer threatening to drill door locks would never see me again!
At best they're incompetent, at worst a rip off. (they'd do as above, pop a new battery in and then charge you £500!)
