to get then to look at the rust, bottom line is they are having nothing to do with it, usual pish from them.

Anyway, went from there to a local bodyshop, they are very good, great rep but a pretty big outfit now, Alan Taylor in Glasgow.

Anyway anyone used them?

Looking at getting a new front wing, talgate sprayed, and one of the rear doors sprayed.

Anyone had similar work done? If so how much?

They are sending me the quote in th epost over the next few days.

The guy said that the rear hatch window will have to come out to spray the rear properly due to the tight seal, extra cost i guess.

He also suggested that the non MB front wings were just about as good. He said that they would prep them on the inside before fitting.

Cheers guys

Use geniune MB wings. They are cheaper than you think, phone the dealer yourself and then phone a factors - I bet there's not a lot in it.

Type 49 is correct, what you save in the buying price you lose in the labour, there is also stel and steel.

Looking
Do you have Mobilo Life? If so then I'd write to DCUK - dealerships don't have the power to approve corrosion repairs directly - all Eskulab reports are sanctioned via Milton Keynes.

Defiantly get Genuine MB body panels, they fit first time , had troubles in the past with the budget ones, ended up having to shape alot of areas to make sure everything lined up properly

Thats a hard one,but at least you know that there is some quality with the product.

I bought a CX once with rusty doors, all 4 just crumbled away,so i bought another one with perfect doors but rusty, front and back, also roof and i got a good car, the reason for me saying this is that during the last war,the Germans took all of the metal from France, and the metal imported was unknown quality. I have known these cheap panels to fail after two years and no one here recomends them.

Try another dealer first.

To be honest i dont have the energy to trail around load of other dealer to get told to bugger off. Better to get it done myself then i know its done.

As for the MB wing, when i get the quote back i will give them a call and see how much it will be if i supply the wing.

Anyone bought a front wing from the MB dealer? How much?

Cheers :)

Hi,
I'd give John R Weir in Grangemouth a bash. I lost hope with Westerns in Edinburgh, took it there and no problem. My friend at work took his 1997 car in last year, got four new doors, rear panels and a full re-spray for free.

I understand if you can't be bothered, but why should us Jocks part with our cash easily :)

Lolss the car has been fully seviced at J Weir, the last service was July and the rust must have been showing through well before that probably befor the previous service.

If they dont fix it a year or two ago why will they now?

What dealer did you go to slim? I took my `98 c 200 to merc glasgow and they sorted the roof and entire passenger side inc a new front wing for nowt. My car has little service history. They would have fixed the rest but the previous owner had the bonnet, entire drivers side and bootlid sprayed (presumably in an attempt to sort rust). I dealt with john paul at their bodyshop. Worth a try again.

I spoke to the dealer in Giffnock, they dont have a body shop but gave me a number to ring. The guy i spoke to took a few details but when i told hiim it was just over the 8 years then he wasnt interested.

Then spoke to J Weir but again they donto have a bodyshop at the dealership the car was serviced at, but they have one in Perth, its a bit far away to be honest, but the guy did say it would only get looked at if the car was owned by me for more than 6 months.

Then took the car to Ayr, the guy looked at it, and said the rust in the tail gate should have been sorted earlier and it was a waste of time. Also suggested that some of the pannels have already been resprayed, used the paint thickness gauge and measred 90micons on some pannels and 250 on some others.

Anyway, i an waiting for the quote from my local bodyshop, probably put the car in end of Jan/Feb.

My local garage is going to do some work on the cross member, structurally its fine but has some superficial rust isues, so a bit of cleaning and some zinc paint etc will do the trick, booked in 2 days before Hogmanay.

Looking forward to the spring and getting some zymol on the car and it properly valeted. The previous owner looked after the car but didnt really cherish it. :D
