Hi Guys, not 100% sure how to go about things on here so forgive me if I get it wrong (I'm a regular at Parker's, which is a bit different).

Anyhoo, just bought a 1996 "P" reg C class in good order for £500 :)

Reason it is cheap is because it won't start.

However, smoe clever cloggs apparently poured petrol into the plenum chamber and it fired up so I assume it is related to the fuel pump, which I assume is related to the immobiliser!?

I looked in the boot and found some fuses missing, but can't recall which ones although I did move one to the alarm (no 3) socket.

The car locks and unlocks from the fob and churns over ok.

What should I start with?

The car is a 1.8 auto.

Thanks, Pooki's Dad.

I can't say for certain if the pump relay is working.

I have never had nor worked on a Merc before so not sure where the relay lives.

I won't have the car for a couple of weeks (bought it from salvage yard and only had half an hour to look round it today).

I have a test meter (digital) so can look for voltage at the pump, etc.

All suggestions will be given careful consideration and if deemed applicable, will be tried out and answered ;)

Thanks.

If you do not know much about Mercs and you have absolutely no idea what the problem is it is going to take a lot of time, patience and advice to sort it out and probably cost a lot of money, alternatevly, go to a MB dealer or indie and get the fault codes read, that should be a good starting point and is what I would do in your position.

Could be a can of worms.

Do some searches on the forum and you'll get some clues about why a C-Class won't start.

Could be fuel pump / relay related and there are ways to bypass the relay so that the fuel pump is on all the time in order to test the pump. Do a search for "fuel pump relay" and you'll get the answer to that.

Ahh yes, worms. But are not us boys made of worms and snails and other such nonsense? :p

As soon as I get the car in my grubby paws I will relish a new challenge.

It's a nice looking car, but I am unsure whether to keep it and punt my Laguna 2 (Privelege Sport Tourer with all the toys) or just do it up and sell it?

Ahh, such trifling problems
