i have a y reg c240 elegance, and i have noticed that when its idling it feels quite jumpy like it will conk out, but it never does, and pulls away fine any ideas on what this is?

also i fitted 18 inch amg split rim wheels on and ive noticed the handling in the wet is pretty poor without driving harsh, is this the same with every merc?

also since fitting the wheels ive noticed a quiet knocking noise when the car is not moving??

any advice much appreicated..

overall i love the car just need to no what these probs could be.

The quiet knocking

is probably the heater duovalve opening and closing, You can check by setting the heat fully on or fully off. It won't click in those settings.

welcome aboard

what's the mileage?
The 240 should idle silenty so there is something amiss. Hard to diagnose at arms length. Have the plugs been done? They last 60k. I've had several problems with leads on the 240 but it's a twin spark so it would have to be in a state to cause the kind of issues you describe. Ignition issues are normally more subtle.
MAS/o2 sensors could cause it, but so could the throttle body.
As you've just got it and don't know the history, I'd strongly recommend spending £50-£100 on a full diagnostic. It will rule out a number of things that you could otherwise spend time and money chasing.
I assume with 18" rims you've put wide tyres on it. Wet handling is going to be poor with wider tyres. It handles quite well with 195 16's!
(I've got 245/17" and spend a lot of time with the orange light flashing)
