Hi,
I'm new to mercs and have just acquired the following - 170179454761 - from Ebay.

A couple of random questions :-
1) It only came with one key and I'm guessing getting a spare made is going to be costly - any comments ? (There is a sort of blank key in the front of the manual - not sure what it's for)

2) drove back from Brum OK but the handling seems a little wobbly at the back when doing about 75 mph + - is this a feature of the type or does something need checking ? (there appear to be well inflated new'ish tyres on all 4 corners ;))

Cheers Nick

PS recommendations of good garages in the Ross-on-Wye / Gloucester areas gratefully received.

Welcome to yet another newbie............seems to be more and more........

As far as spare key costs. Unfortunately spares are around £150ish. I don't know what this blank key is for. I would guess its for mechanically locking and unlocking the drivers door and boot should you get total power failure. Of course you cant drive with this key, it needs the remote unit for that.
No Merc should be "wobbly". You must get this checked and fixed ASAP. Could be a multitude of things - but it does need sorting.

A key for that year of W124 will be around £13 from a dealer. Order it with your V5 & it'll arrive in about 3 days

The 250TD is one of the best W124s ever made and a good one will outlast you if you maintain it properly

Sorry. I was under the impression it was one of the electronic infra red remote jobbys.
Apologies if I just gave you a minor heart attack.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies so far - no doubt about the "bus" (named by my Lithuanian wife) lasting longer than me, considering the rate I'm at which I am wearing out currently it's not much of a contest frankly.

Any thoughts on what to check first on the handling issue - tracking ? -, and garages, as before gratefully received. Also does anyone have any experience of buying fuel filters from Web sites eg ebay ?

Cheers Nick

There's no point in buying from anyone else but MB - the service parts aren't expensive enough to save anything useful

Make sure you replace the fuel pre-filter as well
