Morning, afternoon or whatever time your reading this..hi, so I drive a GLA 200d, which I love, this is the second MB I’ve owned, I’ve had a CLS 250 estate, but it was really two big for my needs, like a bit of a idiot I spoke to my best mate about getting another car and he talked me into getting a EV, so had a look around and ordered a new MG ZS EV, which took just over a year to turn up, part-ex the CLS, well I ran it for a year, but it really wasn’t a patch on the MB, I was going to run the MG for another year, but really hated it, so went out and bought the GLA, which is about the same size as the MG, fits the golf clubs in the back just as good, really like the GLA, any excuse to go out for a drive in it…as for the MG..that just sits on the drive..

Afternoon Dr Johnny Fever. We have a forum member who was also looking at an MG EV. There is a thread on here about his search which went to 44 pages.

Welcome back to the MB world! You took a punt on an EV so well done. Be interesting to know what you did and didn't like about it. I like many on here like the thought of an EV but feel the time just isn't right yet.

Welcome!

MBs are addictive and have heritage I don’t see EVs in the same category not surprised you’re disenchanted with the MG bearing in mind all the other pitfalls of owning one. I’ve just bought a petrol Hybrid and love it the world just isn’t ready for EVs yet they have been rushed to market.

Thanks for the welcome…as for the MG EV, why don’t I like it? I don’t really know, I think it’s been built to a price, like it comes with heated seats, unlike my Merc, it doesn’t have any settings, it on (very hot seats) or off, in the winter, I could never seem to get the cabin warm, it had auto full beam lights, that didn’t always see a car in front of it and stayed on, in the end I switch it off, no electric boot opening, you sat very high in the front seats, because of the batteries, you don’t feel like your sitting in it, more you feel like your sit on it, steering wheel only went in and out, no up and down?.. I liked the speed of it, there’s nothing that leaves you at the lights, well they may get away from you, till they have to change up to second and your gone..it came with a usb next to the rear mirror for the dash cam, which I miss on the Merc, but the main reason I went back to an ice car, if I start to run low on fuel, it’s a five minute job to fill up, I don’t have to think about going out somewhere and then think, oh no I can’t I’m going out tonight and need the juice and it’s the same, if I do along run and come back home down to 10% or less and then get a phone call that’s an emergency, I’m stuck, I have to find a charger and then I’m there for 1/2 hour to stick some juice in it..if I’m going somewhere I want to get there, I don’t want to have to make 3 stops for a long coffee, while I wait for a charger to become empty or to charge it…would I buy another EV?..umm, not at the minute and I don’t think it’ll be a MG..

Interesting that. Definitely built to a cost, but then nowadays so is MB. Yes, its the range issue that I couldn't handle too, until they manage to improve range and charge times, surely the Market become more limited as many try, then go back to, ICE, for likely similar reasons. Such an ill thought out technology rushed to markets, with poor investment from government in the public charging points debate, too. How can people in blocks of flats ever hope to own an EV?

They probably don't get an EV. Unless there are chargers very close to where they live, even then it's not ideal and can be pricey.

Unfortunate to penalise those in flats and apartments and a huge potential market too. Yeah, flawed technology so it is!

I noticed when walking around Portsmouth that EV plug in posts were popping up on residential side streets and car spaces marked as “EV only” so I’m guessing councils are being tasked with fitting a percentage of EV charging points.
I could see they’ll do the same at parking for flats. Although I’m not convinced I’d like a 10+ year old, 5th or 6th owner EV with indeterminate maintenance charging in an underground car park below my flat…:eek:
