I've got an 06 C220 with only one key. As it's 14 years old I've got a fear of it dying suddenly. Presume you can still get a key battery in most supermarkets? Cheers.

Yes but what if your Key fails, I've just had both my keys fail.

Supermarket batteries are OK for the key provided they are a decent brand. Duracell, Panasonic are fine.

I have 8 spare batteries here as Mrs AMGeed picked them up from work when they were clearing stock last month.
If you want a couple, email me at dawsey49 at sky.com. You need CM2025 batteries.

It's probably a good time to check the metal key in the end of your remote will operate the drivers door and boot lock.
The car will still start if the key battery fails, you just can't open the doors/boot with the remote.

Thanks. I've put new Duracells in. My other query is... as I've only one key, is it possible to obtain a new spare key from anywhere?

My choice would be a spray can of thin silicon grease in the locks. WD-40 is not the long term answer

This may help: -

My C220 spare key fob is cracked/a bit iffy - I had a quote of £90 to rebuild it replacing faulty parts - from:

The Replacement Mercedes Keys Team
ReplacementMercedesKeys.co.uk

Matt - 07563 014 634

- I think they're in Brum.

They said:

We can do a key repair replacing any components that may be worn fit new battery's and a new case for £90+vat if you bring the car to our workshop.
This is covered by a 1 year guarantee.

That was June 2019 - I never took them up on it - I just fitted new batteries and both fobs continued okay.
