On my 97 c180 the key fob has a little serrated button on the top edge, if i remember correctly this slides over to allow the insides to come out (needs prising) of the top of the fob, mine has two batterys in there.
Regards geoff.

If it is the same as my C250 the fob having the pop out key.
When the key is open it looks as if it would be the top half (the key area) that would open. It actually isnt, its the lower half that houses the batteries and can be lifted with a thumb with the key out.

If it is the three button key with the metal emergency key in the top, you need to remove the emergency key then use that to press the (grey in my key) lever in. The bottom of the key then slides off.

Mines the same as Barry, can be quite hard to get it off when i do i always think i,ve broken it.
I don,t think his problem is the Batteries though as when my batteries go flat, the mirror and door LEDs are meant to flash to tell you and eventually the immobiliser won,t switch off. Never has mine refused to operate the locking
even when batteries flat.
check the fob by looking at the red window operate the fob should see a red LED flash if the batteries are ok.

No red LED flash on mine but I would have only expected to see it flash using a digital camera ?

He's called a recovery Guy!

He can't get the key to work with "new" batteries he says the red light is an infra red signal!

Tried to wriggle it and thinks the door lock is jammed!

Then tried to force the door with wedges! No Good.

suggested a tow to Dealers/autoelectrician.

The asked the owner if it was an Automatic and he said no it's manual and I left it in gear!:p :p :p :p

I'm going to the Pub now Cheerio! and thanks again!

The local mechanic came out and disconnected then reconnected the pump.

That reset it and it now works off the key.

Just as an addendum to this thread.
After opening my fob last night, to see how it opened. Went to open the car this morning and both lights on door handle and mirror just flashed together:rolleyes: The language was cutting trust me. As I hadnt had a problem since changing the batteries 6 months ago £8:( . Checked the batteries and the power was very low in them , luckily I had some cheap spares and stuck them in. All back to normal
If £8 batteries are only going to last 6 months methinks I am going to be using the cheap ones for £1 a pack of four :p

Hi,
Glad i,m not the only one whose batteries don,t last long,
The cheaper ones are even worse mate.
4 weeks a set of mine lasted. I think it all depends how long they,ve been on the shelf as batteries do have a sell buy date.

Daft thing is the fob was working fine until I opened it. Think the fresh air must have got to the batteries and shocked them :p
