Hello,

I just tried to get in to my w202 220cdi after not using it for a week and the key does not seem to work, naturaly i replaced the 2x cr2025 batteries but with no effect. I was wondering if there was any way of resetting anything to make the key talk to the car?....

Any Help would be much apprecieted.

Many Thanks

Arnie

point your remote at the car and breifly press lock or unlock twice, then within 30 sec turn the key in ign too posistion 2, and that's that.

I have a W203 and had a similar problem. Bad news is it cost £700 to fix. In my case it was the little box of electronic gubbins under the dash that works out what signals it is receiving from the key. Good news is the car was under warantee so it didn't actually cost me anything. I have seen different threads on different models where this is fixed in a much easier and much cheaper way.

Does it work off the infra-red sensor on the drivers door (to test this stand about 1 ft from the driver door handle) ?

Hi Neil,

Tried the infa red but no joy.

Sounds Like I am going to have the bad news option!, I Know the key is working ( went to the merc stealer today) tried re syncing a few times but nothing. I have a really horrible feeling now that you mention that the reciever is under the dash that it may be due to a water leak!, when i moved the car the other day loads of rain water pi$$ed out on the passanger side from under the dash :(

Do any of your remotes work with the car?
I have heard of them resetting the locking system - probably by disconnecting the battery for a minute or so. Then resync - sometimes works. The dealer declared one of ours dead and sold us a new one - Tried the old one again a few weeks later and it's been working fine ever since. We just rotate them, using each for a couple of weeks at a time and all 3 have been a paragon of reliability.

Does the IR transmitter work? You can check by looking at it through a digital camera - phone camera etc.

can you explain this one?

btw Arnie, with mine the infra-red option still worked so maybe yours is a different problem.

Before it rains again check along the scuttle panel for leaf debris and similar and make sure all drain holes are clear to prevent a re-occurance of the water thing. Drain holes may be just that...holes or they could be rubber grommet thingies that are terrible for blocking with the slightest amount of gunk, blast em out with a hose to make sure they are clear.

Agreed, pop the bonnet and clear all the junk thats blocking your drain holes ASAP. Noticed on mine recently with the bonnet open a slow drip from the rubber drain channel from the slats in the bonnet. I opened it up and it was full of mud.
