Hi all,

My year 2000 W202 only came with one remote key + the non remote master. i have been given a key by faher in-law (he had a spare one from his e300 - but the same as mine) - can i use it?

I know it will not start the car because, but can it be sync'ed to open the car, i can then use the non-remote (master) spare.

any help would be great.

Steve

No, it needs to be programmed. Yes if you have the programmer that costs £500.

Where did you get the non remote master? All keys work remotely except the credit card size key cannot close the windows and sunroof if you continued to press the key for at least 5 seconds.

the key i mean is the non-remote key that is supplied (emergency key?) - sorry - not to clear!

where can it be re-programmed to open the doors? trying to get out of shelling out £200 to MB for a new key!

You meant the blade that just open the mechanical lock? This blade is part of the remote key you have to stab it in.

I thought you meant the credit card size remote key!

It still cheaper to get another key for £200 from Merc dealer if you are in a hurry. You can buy a kit to re-program is still a grey area. Malcolm was suggesting we learn more about it but I am not prepared to spend £500 to try it on especially if it does not work and it need the database of the key and car particular.

ref: w202 -Due to having 'put my key in a safe place' (why can I never remember WHERE the 'safe place' IS?) I recently had a copy key cut, and bought a non-mercedes alarm fob, which was 'cloned' to match the original key & fob. Total cost for one copy key from local key cutter, and 'cloned' fob £22.57 and worth it... despite the shame if I ever had to use them on my keyring!
Personally I'd love to convert all the locks and ignition to the later infared key, which 'feels' nicer in my hand!
p/s original 2nd key turned up in winter coat pocket in my hall closet (the 'safe place' also contained spare mobile phone, 3 sets of keys which are held for friends in case of 'lock outs', and a packet of chewing gum!)

More w202 key problems!

Sorry I cant answer you question but thought I would latch onto your post with my problem as it is very similar!
I have a 1996 w202 Merc 280 sport. When I bought the car 7 years ago it only came with 1 key. To be sensible I forked out £127 to the stealership for a spare key - it took 10 months to arrive from Germany! Staff at the garage resynchronised the key and all went well for the past 2 years - but! Suddenly my new key has stopped working. The original old one
still works fully but I feel vulnerable with just one key. I have done the obvious and put brand new batteries in and checked the fit. The remote still shows a strong red light when pressed. I have tried the resynchronisation process ie pointing it at the rear view mirror and pressing twice and then to ignition position 2 within 30 secs. This just caused both red & green lights to flash for a while and then nothing! I disconnected the battery for 30 secs to clear any fault codes and no difference. (the old remote still worked with no resych needed) I then dismantled the remote and checked the solder joints etc and all appeared fine. Reassembled - and back to the starting position.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes I go on holiday, hide all of the keys to doors, cars, workshop and never find them when I get home:confused::confused:
