Hi people, im new to being a merc owner and have some questions i hope somebody can help with, i have a 97 E230 estate which i just purchased but it only came with one key fob, apparently new ones are £120ish, or so i was told, i have an identical looking fob from my c180 which has just been written off, can i recode the key from my old merc and use it on the new one?, if not is there anyone local to watford that could? It has a tiptronic gearbox which i know nothing about, changes smoothly, but sitting on the driveway i just noticed that revving the engine in neutral when it reaches about 3krpm its almost as though it misses then catches up again at about 4k? the car has done 93000m and is probably in need of a service which ill get to tomorrow, the oil level is also too high in the engine(above the plastic marker), could that be causing it to cough?
thanks in advance for any help, the old one was a c180 est 1999, it did several 360deg spins across all 3 lanes of the m25, got t boned by another merc in the fast lane and came to rest in the middle lane facing the wrong way, the only injurys were the passenger in the other merc had a face full of airbag and my wife broke a finger nail!!, thats a safe built car for you!!

Hi & Welcome,

The keys cannot be re-coded so if you need another the dealer is the way to go.
There is a rev limiter in neutral so unless it is giving grief elsewhere you may not have a problem.

What caused you previous C class to go for a spin?

thanks for the prompt reply dude, we had only had the other one for 3 weeks, i have no idea why it span, rain and maybe some diesel? it was in excellent condition, tyres were all good etc.., all she can remember is that it span out on the slip road at jcn18 and she lost controll, it was on a bend in the wet but the car didnt have enough power to slide out on its own, im just happy that everyone was realativly unharmed!
