Good day, I wonder if anyone can help...
We have a 2008 Vito Sport from new (97,000 miles) . Without any warning and it has developed the following problem starting issue:
1.Key fob stopped working and could not unlock the van. Unlocked manually.
2.Placed key in dash and it would not turn. Replaced the batteries in the fob with new and checked with meter (6V)
3.Key would still not turn, but if you placed it in and waited 3 or 4 seconds a short whirring and click can be heard. Key still will not turn (foot on brake as well)
4.Pull key out just a tiny bit and it turns. All lights come on. Starter will not engage (main battery OK 12.44 V and OK when trying to start)
5. Turn key off and try again. After a few attempts it starts. Sometimes the ESR and ABS warning lights stay on.
Drives fine when started.
Maybe related or maybe not. From time to time the red battery light comes on when driving. I've had a meter on the battery under the driver seat and it shows a solid 14V even when the battert light comes on. Been doing this for over a year. I suspect the clutch on the alternator is on the way out (is there a clutch - I think so)
Any ideas please.
