Hi,

My dad has a Mercedes C180 Kompressor 2006. Around 8 years ago, my dad had to Get a replacement key from Mercedes, as the original key and spare key buttons broke at 2 different/separate occasions. Plus both keys wouldn’t register when putting it in the ignition. He’s had a new key ever since, but the casing has bulged, so the battery isn’t making contact unless the casing is pushed together, this key works fine to unlock/lock and to actually start the ignition.

I wanted to try and fix the two older keys, which I started with one today. I soldered a new micro-switch and fixed the buttons. They all work, to unlock/lock and open the trunk. However, the old key is still not registering.

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance!
(Hoping I posted this in the correct forum)

Internally in the key at the bottom of the circuit board is a small coil. These have a habit of coming adrift if the key is dropped.

Hi Kishan Welcome.
Sorry Off topic but this reminds me of the golf the wife drove, one morning it wouldn't start with immobiliser problem. I paid a recovery to take it to nearest VW dealer. guy rung me day later to say there was no chip in the key (im confused at this point) He asked me did we drop the key?
I asked the wife and she said "Ohh thats right key fell apart when I dropped it at front door and I put it back together again. I go to front door and after a quick search I found the chip:mad: £100 for recovery and another £200 to dealer. needless to say rest of the week was frosty between me and her

They key(s) has been dropped on multiple occasions for sure. Is there anyway of testing this coil? If so, is this replaceable without passing it to a professional of course.

The key needs to be dismantled, circuit board removing from the shell and you can test the coil for continuity. Replacement can be very fiddly!

As above. Coils are available on eBay but you need to know which of several types.
