I have a problem! w210 estate 230 1996 and rusty

The remote locking unlocks doors etc but when the key (flip out) is inserted it will not turn. The batteries have recently been changed in the remote. It feels rather as tho' the gear lever is not in P, but it is. Have accessed the steering lock and pulled cable that is attached to brake pedal but to no avail. By pulling other cable on brake have moved gear lever to N, but still key will not turn. Car running perfectly when parked last Thurs. Any ideas anyone?

This could just be a ignition switch failure, we do not get that many faults on the flip out key version, though it could still be a transponder key,,I will post back

Hi,
Can i ask why you replaced all that kit when all you needed was either a new key or EIS switch?
Did you have a STAR diagnostic test before you replaced all of it?

Hi,
Did your mechanic do the replacement of the parts? What does he suggest, as replacing these parts was afterall his idea.
Was the doner car exactly the same? year model etc?
If it was an estate your new key should,nt have the boot opening button, if it has you have the wrong key for that kit.

yeh....i actualy fitted the parts as he was taking to long to come to my house and fit them, and also the doner car was the exaxt same ecu as mine etc and the new key does not have a boot release..if the doner key open and closes the doors, would that only work if the ecu and igntion were fitted correctly?

He might not of fitted them but have you asked him for any advice on this current issue?
Though you might not like what i,m gonna say,
I would not of replaced anything till i,d had a proper MB STAR diagnostic test done, this original problem may of only been a faulty key.
If it was my car i would put the original kit back on the car and a get the codes read by a proper diag tool, this will then give you a starting point on what it needs, a new key is £215 or a EIS switch £350ish plus half hour labour to code it.
